WNS - Wireless Network Scaner

After getting my new laptop - IBM X60S - I had some huge problems about the wireless network and acces to and WEP-crypto network. The solution for this was a little script a frined of mine made several years ago- about the problems of handling network profiles and accessing network using and IPW???? module NIC- So I have made this a package in the ArchLinux AUR package system and are available here or at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?do_Details=1&ID=7026&O=0&L=0&C=0&K=wns&SB=&SO=&PP=25&do_MyPackages=&do_Orphans=&SeB=nd

Here is some explanation about the commands in it:

  • wns start - Starts the program up
  • wns scan - Scanning for wireless networks
  • wns stop - Stops the wns program
  • wns add - Adding a network profile - from asking a few questions
  • wns try <Network/profile> - trying to connect to the network og using a specifiet profile
  • wns del <profile> - Deleting the profile

Well - the program is from 2 files - wnsd (A daemon that belongs in /etc/rc.d/wnsd and wns in /usr/sbin/wns.
Start by using the command iwconfig - to find out what the name og the wireless NIC is - afterward put this name into the linedefination in /usr/sbin/wns and bang - you're got to go. That's it - have fun.

Just remember that you should be root to be able to execute this script.

This program is totally defined and the special work of masiX - Thanks Shinishâ
